Spring Lambs

We have 4 lambs which we are bottle feeding – they are all from big commercial farms and are either orphans or the third lamb of triplets that the ewe cannot feed.  They are turning out to be rather naughty and especially enjoy eating Andys shoelaces! Meanwhile we are making the barn ready for our own ewes to lamb. We are expecting them at the beginning of May – Exciting times!!

Wonderful Weather and Wifi

It has been glorious weather the last few days and Andy.  So the sheep and Alpacas are looking forward to being shorn. We have set up wifi box thing (technical term!) which means we can connect Gilt, Straw and Clay Cottages to the internet.  We will do our best to add Dilly cottage as well on Friday. Incidentally there is quite a strong internet signal down in the pig houses – so I do hope they are being responsible!!

Walking off Sunday Lunch

space to play bluebells If you stay at any of our cottages you are most welcome to wander around the farm.  We always have some fields free from animals so there is always lots of room to walk, play and picnic.  Amazed to find that the bluebells are still out in full force at the moment.

Our fields join up with a whole network of footpaths for a longer walk.  Andy had just cooked the most enormous Sunday Roast so we stuck to wandering around the farm with a cup of coffee while the kids and dogs did the exercise!!!

Piglets are growing up!

pig3    pig4Following their surprise arrival  at Christmas and new year – the little piglets have been doing well.  The mothers now look well and truly fed up so we have separated them from the piglets.  The mums are delighted and can sleep together undisturbed in the sunshine.  Meanwhile the piglets have been let into the orchard where there is lots of long grass for them to play in and eat.alpaca1

Warm Sun

ImageImageWell we cant deny it has been a bit soggy this winter – we have been very grateful that we live on top of the downs. It has meant the fields have been muddy, and I have lost count of the number of times I have fallen over going to feed the animals – but the last week or so has seen everything start to dry out.   ImageImageImageImageImage

More rain

We have had a fewImage beautiful days here recently – but there has also been a lot of rain.  Thank heavens for being on top of the downs!  I was wondering if it is possible to build a straw bale ark?  The rainwater harvesting tank is wonderfully full at the moment – with the overflow running into the duck pond (happy ducks!).  When we built the straw house we were advised to have big eves to help protect the building.  Sam the trainee sheep dog is sitting under the eves right now asking for a walk – Think I might put it off for a few minutes!
