There are many opportunities for days out from Elmfield.
The beautiful cathedral city of Canterbury is only a few miles away. As well as the historic attractions Canterbury is also an attractive shopping center with many cafes and restaurants.
Elmfield is set in the Kent Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB) and there are many spectacular walks along the North Downs way and the famous White Cliffs. There are many pretty Kentish villages and towns worth visiting including Wye, Elham (http://www.elham.co.uk/) and Chilham (http://www.enjoychilham.org.uk/).There are a number of sandy and pebble beaches on the east and north coast of Kent. Our favourites are at Hythe and Dymchurch only a few miles away, and Minnis Bay and Joss and Kingsgate bays near Sandwich.
Castles within easy driving distance are Dover Castle, Deal Castle and Leeds Castle, and there are numerous National Trust and English Heritage sites near by.
Howletts Zoo and Port Lympne Safari Park are very close by. For other family days out there is Romney Hythe and Dymchurch Railway, Rare Breeds Centre, Herons Park and Farming World. Chatham and the historical dockyard are around 45 minutes away which is a great day out and an unusual chance to explore a submarine!
Day trips to France are very easy great not only for shopping, but also wide sandy beaches, small harbour towns, restaurants – more information can be found at Day trips to France.
For those fond of shopping, Canterbury has a wide variety of shops, both smaller individual stores and large chains. Why not enjoy a night out at the Marlow theater which puts on a wide range of performances, including ballet, plays and pantomimes. Folkestone has a new quarter near the harbour which is being regenerated, and has encouraged art and craft shops to move in. There are other shopping opportunities at the McArthurGlen Designer outlet centre in Ashford. Of course a daytrip to France mentioned above will let you stock up on wine beer and other bargains.
