Phase 1 – Clear site and Foundations

January – Mid April

We will leave the milking parlour and feed store which are the buildings immediately opposite the cottages in place during phases 1,2 and 3 of the build. Behind this we will remove the old barn (already almost complete) and level the site ready for the build, and dig the trenches for foundations. We will be doing this work ourselves so we can make sure that there is minimal disturbance to any guests. We aim to start and work 10am and finish around 4 pm, and we can stop any-time that it causes any disturbance to guests.

Laying brick foundations and the limecrete floor slab. This is specialist work which we cannot do ourselves and will be bringing expert helpers on site. We will endeavour to make sure that there is minimum disturbance to guests. This is scheduled for early March and will be left to cure for 4 weeks before any further building takes place.

Phase 2 – External Structure – Cottages Closed

April 23rd – End of May

Straw Bale walls will be erected. Our architects will be running a straw baling course here while we build the walls. They will be made of straw bales and fixed in place with hazel stakes. The straw comes from a farm a couple of miles away and the hazel from local coppice workers. If you are interested in attending the course please let me know and I can put you in touch with our architects.

Once the straw walls roof and windows are in place the building will be rendered with a lime render. We will again be bringing in specialists to help us with this work.

Phase 3 – Internal work.

June – August

Once the main structure is in place we will begin work on the inside of the cottages. This work will be done by ourselves mostly with experts brought in on occasion to help. We will ensure there is minimal disturbance to guests in either cottage.

Phase 4 – Landscaping – Cottages Closed

Late August / Early September

Once internal work has been completed, we will landscape the outside of the building. This will involve removing the Milking parlour and feedstore and creating a central grass oval, drive and good parking between the cottages. The cottages will have to be closed during this time.

Phase 5 – Cottages open!

Although we hope we will have the new cottages open in October – we will not be taking any bookings until nearer the time, and we are absolutely confident of the completion dates.  If you would like to be notified of the opening dates please let us know.
