Building of our straw bale cottages is now underway. The foundations are complete and we are in the process of building walls with the help of Straw Works. We hope to open these cottages in September or October 2012, in the meantime our existing cottages are still open for guests.
The new building will be in the farmyard where the old barn used to be. Below shows the drawing by Straw Works of the location of our new barn.
The house will be made of straw with a lime render and have lots of environmentally sustainable features. Click here for our green credentials. It will be split into 3 three bedroom self catering houses and we understand it is the first straw load bearing terrace of houses in Europe! We hope the external structure will be up and watertight by late June and possibly open after the end of September 2012
The first floor is nearly complete for cottage number 1, and we hope to complete the rest of the straw walls during May. A estimated timescale for our building works can be found by clicking here.
